A Calling Before It Was an Institution
Reflection of Truth™ began with a responsibility to help young people recognize possibility and learn to steward what has been entrusted to them. Before there was an organization, a framework, or a School of Stewardship, there was a Calling.
The Beginning
The roots of Reflection of Truth reach back to 2013–2014 at Turner Chapel AME Church in Marietta, Georgia, through the Iron Sharpens Iron Academy. The early work brought together Seth Tossie, Rev. Don Ezell, and Marcellus Pitts around the development of young people.
What if preparing young people for achievement is not enough? What if we also intentionally help prepare them to steward a whole life?
Not Simply, “What Will You Achieve?” But, “Who Are You Becoming?”
Achievement, education, careers and opportunity matter. Formation also asks young people to consider identity, character, relationships, responsibility, purpose, leadership, resources, community and contribution.
Hope Is a Responsibility
ROT is rooted in faith and in a conviction about dignity, possibility and worth. Hope is more than optimism. It is expressed when young people are seen, supported, challenged with dignity, and given meaningful opportunities to grow.
From Calling to Institution
The School of Stewardship is the institutional environment for Life-Centered Formation. The Whole Steward Framework provides the formation architecture; curriculum and learning experiences bring that philosophy into practice.
The curriculum doesn't invent the philosophy—it teaches it.
CALLING → FORMATION → STEWARDSHIP → SERVICE → MULTIPLICATION
What We Believe
-
Every person has inherent worth.
-
Growth can be measured; human worth cannot.
-
Belonging comes before expectation.
-
Formation is more than information.
-
Young people develop in relationship.
-
Stewardship requires practice, responsibility and service.
-
A steward learns to recognize possibility in self and others.
We measure your growth… never your worth.
The Calling Continues
-
Reflection of Truth is still becoming what the Calling requires. ROT is building carefully, learning, serving, strengthening relationships and developing an institution designed to form Whole Stewards who can carry responsibility, serve others and multiply what has been entrusted to them.
-
We shape the steward. The steward shapes the world.
